What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.
In our classrooms students participate in:

At Berala Public School students have the opportunity to participate in:
- Premier's Spelling Bee - promoting our students' vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings.
- Premier's Debating Challenge - helping our students to build logical arguments and confidence in public speaking.
- School Spectacular - an iconic performing arts event that celebrates the talents, diversity and creativity of students from across NSW public schools.
- Pulse Alive – A large-scale performing arts event that celebrates the talent and creativity of public school students through music, dance, and song. It provides students with an exciting opportunity to perform on stage, build confidence, and showcase their passion for the performing arts.
- Game Changer Challenge – A competition where students work collaboratively with teachers to enhance their design thinking skills and develop creative solutions to real-world problems. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to think critically, innovate, and showcase their ideas at a high level.
- Tournament of Minds – A creative problem-solving competition where students work collaboratively in teams to explore open-ended challenges across disciplines such as STEM, the Arts, and Language Literature. It encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation as students present their solutions in engaging and imaginative ways.
- Maths Olympiad – Supports students in developing advanced problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. It challenges students to think creatively and apply their knowledge in complex and unfamiliar situations.
- Inclusive Sport Representative Teams - Our Inclusive Sport program provides students with wonderful opportunities to represent our school while developing teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Through these experiences, students build confidence, form friendships, and showcase their talents in an encouraging and supportive environment.
